How to Save Money Shaving Your Legs

A few years ago, I was discussing the high price of razor refill blades with a friend when her husband piped in with a great tip. I don’t know where he’d learned it (heck, maybe it’s something all men learn when shaving their face), but it’s pretty simple:

Dry off the edge of your razor blade when you are finished shaving, and keep it somewhere dry, and it will last a lot longer. I’ve been using the same blade on my razor for a year now, and it still makes my legs nice and smooth. Before learning this trick, I was getting only three or four shaves per blade before it would start to nick me and leave stubble.

I’ve heard that you can extend the life of your razor blade even longer by coating it in Vaseline between uses, but I haven’t tried that.

  • I saw one of the popular money experts on a news program a few months ago saying the exact same thing. He says he uses 2 blades per year by keeping the razor in a dry place. Good tip!

  • I tried the vaseline idea (I think I read about it in one of the Tightwad Gazette books). What I really liked about it is it gives you a smooth shave :) Great post.
